Working both indoors and outdoors, electricians find themselves in home settings, businesses, factories, and construction sites. For their work, they frequently travel between several sites, so having a reliable form of transportation is necessary for this job. Electricians usually work full-time and, in fact, may work more than eight hours a day. Late nights and working on weekends is common for this profession. Many different types of employers seek electricians, from manufacturers to electrical contractors. Those who find satisfaction in this career enjoy working with their hands and solving complex problems.Electrician Responsibilities:

  • Install, maintain and repair electrical control, wiring, and lighting systems.
  • Read technical diagrams and blueprints.
  • Perform general electrical maintenance.
  • Inspect transformers and circuit breakers and other electrical components.
  • Troubleshoot electrical issues using appropriate of testing devices.
  • Repair and replace equipment, electrical wiring, or fixtures.
  • Follow National Electrical Code state and local building regulations.
  • Circuit breaker corrective maintenance.
  • Good knowledge of heating and air conditioning systems.
  • Good knowledge of various test equipment.
Electrician Duties 1)Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools.2)Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.3)Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components.4)Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.5)Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous.6)Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system.7)Maintain current electricians license or identification card to meet governmental regulations.8)Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures, based on job specifications and local codes.9)Direct and train workers to install, maintain, or repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures.10)Prepare sketches or follow blueprints to determine the location of wiring and equipment and to ensure conformance to building and safety codes.Different Types of Electricians
  • Residential electricians. Residential electricians install, maintain and upgrade electrical equipment in apartments and houses. .
  • Commercial electricians. Commercial electricians work on construction sites, in commercial buildings and on mechanical electrical systems. .
Electricity flows in two ways: eitherin an alternating current(AC) orin a direct current(DC). Electricity or current is nothing but the movement of electrons through a conductor, like a wire.
