Job Description

    Credit Risk assesses, permissions, and manages credit and counterparty risks on an industry, client, geographic, and transaction basis. Credit risk is defined as the risk of loss arising from the default of a client or counterparty. Credit exposure arises through underwriting, lending, and trading activities with and for clients and counterparties, as well as from a range of operating services such as cash management and clearing activities.The Credit Risk function identifies, measures, limits, manages, and monitors credit risk across our businesses. The teams are typically aligned by industry. Credit Risk is independent within Corporate Risk Management, reporting to the firm s Chief Risk Officer (CRO). Our practices are designed to preserve the independence and integrity of decision making.Japan CIB Wholesale Credit Risk is responsible for lending activities and trading related credit exposures with the Japan based companies including their overseas subsidiaries across the spectrum of Corporates and Financial Institution sectors.Analysts are assigned a portfolio of clients with primary responsibility for performing ongoing credit analysis and client exposure management. Responsibilities include:
    • Assessing creditworthiness of clients, performing financial analysis and recommending appropriate credit ratings
    • Staying current on all aspects of the assigned credit portfolio, including industry trends, portfolio performance, compliance with covenants, potential risks and opportunities
    • Independently preparing and presenting credit approval memos in connection with new transactions and reviews on existing client facilities
    • Participating in client due diligence meetings
    • Performing annual reviews by coordinating with middle office and business partners in a timely manner
    • Monitoring, investigating and escalating risk metrics associated with client activity, including exposure control, covenants tracking, and collateral
    • Leading ad hoc team projects
    What we look for in strong candidates:
    • MBA from Top Tier B-School or professional qualification in Accountancy
    • Excellent academic track record; strong finance and analytical skills
    • Some credit/underwriting credentials, analytical skills, and experience is a plus, while in-depth knowledge of accounting and corporate finance is required
    • Possess strong analytical and modeling skills
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
    • Highly motivated with a natural passion to learn and an inquisitive personality
    • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work well in a team environment
    • Strong sense of accountability and ownership of tasks
    • Interest in client interaction with strong verbal and written communication skills
    • Capable of understanding, describing, and debating complex concepts
    • Ability to perform well under pressure in a demanding environment managing multiple tasks at the same time
    • Strong attention to detail and an excellent work ethic
