Security guards have many duties and responsibilities, including:

Surveillance and observation: Security guards should have excellent observation and surveillance skills, and be able to remain calm and decisive in any situation

Responding to alarms and emergenciesSecurity guards respond to alarms and emergencies, including evacuating the building, contacting emergency services, and providing first aid

ReportingSecurity guards note their daily observations and report them in accordance with established protocols
Maintaining order and crowd controlSecurity guards perform crowd control duties, resolve disputes, and answer visitors questions

Other duties of a security guard include:

Providing answers to inquiries
Answering the phone at a security desk
Keeping daily logs of incidents and other events
Driving and supervising armored vehicles for the transportation of valuable goods
Installing security systems and controls
Inspecting and patrolling premises regularly
Communicating with local law enforcement units
