Job summary The Red Hat IT team is looking for a Technical Writer to join us. In this role, you will assist the team in developing and publishing artifacts that document business processes, system processes and controls, and more. You ll need to be passionate about communication and documentation creation. To succeed in this role, you should have prior knowledge of and experience with compliance and controls documentation in a technology or enterprise application environment. We are looking for someone with prior experience with business documentation, including documentation that supports a process like policies, checklists, tutorials, screenshots, process maps, training materials, forms, or links to other applications. As a Technical Writer, you should have experience documenting system processes, specifically documents that describe the requirements, capabilities, limitations, design, operation, and maintenance of a system like communication, computing, or information processing systems especially pertaining to compliance or audit activities. Successful applicants must reside in a state where Red Hat is registered to do business. Primary job responsibilities

• Determine the needs of end users for the technical documentation required, where the end users are internal to Red Hat or IBM
• Work with technical associates to make processes easier to use, understand, and requiring fewer instructions
• Engage and collaborate with customer feedback programs to address content gaps, respond to direct customer feedback, and promote continuous improvement of the documentation experience
• Lead the organization, drafting, and delivery of any supporting technical documents
• Use photographs, drawings, diagrams, animation, and charts that increase understanding
• Select appropriate medium for message or audience like manuals, process documentation, and test evidence or samples
• Master the use of our internal documentation toolchain, including the publishing platform and issue-tracking tools
• Standardize content across platforms and media
• Gather usability feedback from internal associates, end users, and IT counterparts
• Revise documents as new issues or requests arise or feedback is received from IBM
• Help preserve Red Hat or IBM knowledge
• Help provide documents that may train other associates
• Assist in managing the flow of information among project workgroups during development and testing

Required skills

• Communication skills; ability to take complex and technical information and translate it for non-technical audiences
• Detail oriented; ability to ask questions to solicit context and specifications and create details instructions for others
• Ability to think about a procedure or product from the point of view of the intended audience
• Experience working as a part of a team of other writers, designers, editors, and illustrators
• Experience working with technical teams to create documentation for their information
• Understanding of and ability to explain highly technical information; background in engineering or computer science
• Excellent writing skills to be able to explain technical information clearly
• Bachelors degree, preferably in IT, computer science, or an arts or language field
• Experience with Google Suite for Business is a plus
• 3+ years of experience in technical writing
• Fluency in spoken and written English
