Petroleum engineers areresponsible for designing and developing systems to extract oil and gas from underground reservoirs.They work on almost every stage of oil and gas field development, production, and evaluation.Their goal is to drill for hydrocarbons in the most efficient way possible and to address any issues that may arise during operations.Petroleum engineerswork with geoscientists and other specialists to explore for oil and gas deposits, or reservoirs, in rock formations underground. After discovering reservoirs, petroleum engineers determine the best methods of extraction through wells on land or offshore rigs at sea.Overview. Petroleum production engineers responsibilities include:Evaluating inflow and outflow performance between the reservoir and the wellbore. Designing completion systems, including tubing selection, perforating, sand control, matrix stimulation, and hydraulic fracturing.
