Job Description

The person will be the principal contributor on transmission system design and product development within Drivetrain India team and will ensure products provide superior performance, durability, quality, and serviceability. In addition to demonstrating technical expertise, a person in this position may be called on to act as a team and/or project leader, but major focus is on technical delivery. This person should be able to direct work with other units, suppliers, customers, and teams. Require the incumbent demonstrate skill in negotiation, building consensus, and achieving compromise. Responsible for design and developing concepts to lead Global NPI & CPI issues, to support / lead New product development needs and lead cost reduction goals for the Business Unit in line with Caterpillar product development processes. Responsibilities of this position demand that the incumbent understand complex technical problems and demonstrate the ability to develop creative solutions.Job duties and Responsibilities

  • Proficient in design & development of Transmission / Lower Powertrain system & subsystems (Planetary, Differential, Brakes, OTG, ITG )
  • Expert in design of components such as Castings, Gears, Splines, Shaft & Bearings
  • Develop solutions for complex technical problems and accountable for the design or improvement of drivetrain systems or processes
  • Functional Transmission Interface knowledge like Torque Convertor, Control Valves, cooling system, pumps, End of line test specification, etc.
  • Should have worked on design and development of planetary type transmission
  • Should be able to perform detailed layout design of Drivetrain system
  • Can support/ Create guidelines & provide technical guidance within the team and supporting organizations.
  • Should be able to define and improve performance, Durability requirements
  • Will do calculations for design decisions and necessary analysis and computer simulations.
  • Must be able to effectively program manage their projects, identifying resources and managing to deadlines.
  • Strong Component Manufacturing Knowledge and can Collaborate with Suppliers, Manufacturing, Product support and Quality & Reliability groups to solve issues
  • Should be self-starter and ready to travel to supplier and customer at any given moment of time.
  • Must be able to communicate technically with process partners on a regular basis
  • Will be responsible to review engineering drawings before releasing, review deviations and managing all risks with effective DVP&R and DFMEA.
  • Can Interpret results from calculations, analysis, FEA, Testing and Conclude. Should able to provide strong robust recommendations
  • Proficient in Drivetrain Systems & components for various applications and demonstrate the ability to develop creative solutions for complex field/internal issues
  • Should have the ability to gather relevant data, synthesizes the data and identify relationships to predict failure modes.
, Background/Experience: Requires an accredited Mechanical or Automobile engineering degree with 13-15 years of relevant experience and have exhibited ability to work on complex assignments. Must have excellent analytical skills an extensive understanding of complex engineering concepts and applications. Self-starter with strong technical leadership skills. Must have ability to communicate technical information effectively with team members and others in the work group, as well employees in other units, customers, and suppliers. Required Experience: Strong Design knowledge on Axle/Transmission / Gear box . Preferably from mining/ Construction background. Good at Pro/e Modeling of Axle /Transmission components. Good product knowledge on mining & construction equipment s. Requires adequate knowledge on general engineering practices & GD&T.
