Job Description

The IT Portfolio Manager III is responsible for coordinating his or her assigned team’s entire portfolio of initiatives. The role is responsible in assisting in the management and support of the resource, forecasting, prioritization, and budgeting processes. This includes annual budget planning and management of the budget throughout the year. This role will also partner with key participants across the enterprise, such as technology partners, strategy and execution, and technology business management. Principal Accountabilities:

  • Oversight of incoming new work requests, assisting senior management with continuous portfolio management (status, projections, resource planning, new request monitoring), ongoing budget reviews (actual vs budget analysis, projections, periodic reporting), cost projections in the future across the portfolio.
  • Performing analysis to understand resource commitments, understanding burn rates and total program costs at completion and working directly with development teams to resolve conflicts and highlight portfolio changes. This includes managing the professional fee (consultant) forecasts, working with the teams to enforce exit plans for those running over budget, escalating issues to management, and ensuring resources are aligned to appropriate funding.
  • Facilitating the project forecasting process for assigned teams and providing revised forecasts and variances to management on a monthly basis is a key job responsibility. This includes timely reporting of actuals to forecast as well as key project changes, variances, and risks.
  • Must ensure all team managers are aware of the impacts and can justify changes appropriately.
  • Must be able to represent the teams ability to meet new requests or represent tradeoffs/ incremental resource needs.
  • This role requires a high level of collaboration across multiple teams and roles.
Skills and Software Requirements:
  • Bachelors Degree in Business or business-related discipline required
  • Minimum 5 years of project/portfolio, development, and organizational management with emphasis on planning
  • Strong knowledge of IT business processes and practices
  • Experience working with senior leadership teams to identify and address issues related to planning and strategy, framing key decisions, and facilitating prioritization of initiatives
  • Proven ability to analyze complex problems and break them down into logical, actionable parts
  • Strong Collaboration skills
  • Skilled in partnering and influencing at various levels to define problems, identify process-based solutions, and facilitate change
  • Attentive to detail but able to see the big picture; good business acumen
  • Excellent oral, written and collaborative communication skills, including executive level communications
  • Excellent proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, specifically EXCEL and PIVOT tables
  • Proficiency with Jira, resource planning, and project/portfolio management tools
  • Working knowledge of IT Software Development Life Cycle methodologies
